The Silence of the Lambs

Directed by Jonathan Demme from a script by Ted Tally, The Silence of the Lambs was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won five, losing out to Terminator 2: Judgement Day in the Sound (now Sound Mixing) category. It was also nominated for a BAFTA for Best Sound, again losing out to Terminator 2.

Here is an fascinating interview with sound designer Skip Lievsay on designingsound.org in which he mentions some of the issues he faced working on the film.

Here’s a good interview with sound effects editor Ron Bochar in which he talks about how the sound of Dr. Hannibal Lector’s cell was created.

Here is a good overview on Deadline of how the film was made, comprised of interviews conducted around the 25th anniversary of the films release with Bob Bookman, Jonathan Demme and Ted Tally.
